Ezakheni schools benefit from football initiative

The AmaZulu Community Trust and Defy braved the scorching heat and the long distance to Ladysmith to conduct coaching clinics for four schools in Ezakheni township on 14 November 2013.
As part of the home appliance brand’s social upliftment goals to its core business operating areas, Ezakheni was announced as the latest to join in on the exciting schools’ initiative programme which has already been rolled out in Durban.
“We’re delighted for this opportunity brought to us by Defy and the AmaZulu Community Trust and I’m quite sure all pupils from the schools involved will embrace it with both hands,” said Ekukhuleni High School Principal, Sphamandla Ndwandwe.
To kick start the four schools’ participation in the programme, AmaZulu Community Trust Programs Manager, Mpho Dintwa, presented the four schools with training equipment.
“Now the ball is in your court as schools. We’re bringing an opportunity to interested learners that would one day want to change their lives around, in an opportunity that will see some of the most promising players being offered bursaries at Northwood High School,” said Dintwa.
According to Dintwa the participating teachers from Ekukhuleni, Endakane, Qophindlela and Sakhelwe High Schools will also be equipped with how to better handle bullying, teenage pregnancy and alcohol abuse at their respective schools.
Former AmaZulu great and Chief Scout, Joel Faya, alongside former Usuthu veteran development coach Boyzie Mngoma trained about 50 players from all four schools.
