AmaZulu Community Trust supports World Sight Day
The AmaZulu Community Trust played its part on 10 October 2013, Thursday in raising awareness about blindness and vision impairment on World Sight Day at North Beach’s Bay of Plenty. The initiative was championed by an Australian NGO named, Brien Holden Vision Institute and the KZN Blind and Deaf Society saw AmaZulu players Tapuwa Kapini, Msekeli Mvalo, Sadney Urikhob and Nkosinathi Mthiyane have their eyes screened for possible irregular eyesight.
“You never know if you have something so it’s good to have your eyes tested,” said AmaZulu captain, Tapuwa Kapini. “Also, we just have to encourage all those that are not as fortunate as we are that we love them and they’re just as important to us as any of our fans.”
The mobile clinic and free screenings were not the only attractions as pole dancing gymnastics on show impressed the players who later had a signing session with the gathered supporters. New Usuthu signing, Msekeli Mvalo, gave a different take on what he learnt from the short interaction with the personnel from Brien Holden Vision Institute.
“Not only was this important for checking the eyes but to us as football players it’s quite important that you’re reminded and are aware of what is happening with your body, regularly,” he said. “The body is an asset to us and also there are situations which call for proper eyesight and sound judgement at night games so this was quite helpful to know that all is well.” You can visit www.brienholdenvision.org to learn more about the course that the Brien Holden Vision Institute is bringing to the global society.
